SAFW, The Runway Experience Part 2: Established Designers
By: Riya Goel
We can’t wait to tell you more about our established designers that closed out SAFW Day 4: The Runway Experience. SAFW's final runway experience showcased designers Rivesse Clothing, JinaShil x Reemat Designs, Margi, and Aara by Sana. Here’s some more about each established designer.
Rivesse Clothing
Rivesse Clothing makes sure that South Asian Menswear isn’t forgotten. Inspired by a traditional sense of style, the modernizing vintage clothing Rivesse “was founded to bring forward a love for men’s fashion and style to the masses at an affordable price.” Rivesse allows anyone “to be able to afford to wear custom clothing that fits their lifestyle and needs, allowing them to exude confidence.” Because, what is style if not being “confident and comfortable?”
Jinashili x Reemat Designs
JinaShili designs for the modern South Asian woman who wants to integrate both her personal style and trends in her wardrobe. With pastel colors and bold cuts, Jina Shili always brings out the best of design to push boundaries. Wearing Jina Shili’s designs is sure to make a vibrant statement and bring a new perspective to your closet.
Reemat Designs, founded by Reema Mathur, brings excellence and precision to South Asian jewelry. Influenced by East meets West, one will find a variety of jewelry styles in each piece produced by ReeMat. The attention to detail mesmerizes consumers and stylists alike. Her designs paired with JinaShili’s outfits were bound to captivate the audience at SANYFW.
margi
Margi’s designs bring comfort and functional design to South Asian clothing. Drawing inspiration from western silhouettes, but still incorporating ornate Indian clothing elements, Margi explores these juxtapositions in addition to others, including differences between feminine and masculine design elements. Drawing on the common western experience of Indian clothes looking the same and feeling uncomfortable, Margi challenges such a notion, providing comfortable and beautiful designs to South Asian fashion.
Aara by SANA
Aara by SANA is by far the most edgy take on South Asian fashion. From its brilliant juxtaposition of South Asian warm and colder tones to its black and white foxy looks, Sana Ali Khan, the designer behind the vision of Aara by SANA, kills the fashion game in each of her outfits. She is not afraid to be “LOUD and PROUD” in each design and look and we love the confidence each of her looks bring to the table. Her style allows South Asian women to reclaim their respect and confidence and put aside old gender standards through a new age of fashion.
We loved experiencing the stories of each designer through their collections at SAFW 2022.. Each designer incorporated their own heritage and unique perspective into their process in order to produce what comes down the runway, leading to a thrilling close to our runway experience Sunday night.
